Holiday Happenings :)

Happy Holidays!!!  It's hard to believe that we are getting close to winding down 2014. Since the next few weeks can be very busy I wanted to give you a heads up about a few events.
 
**We will be doing a $5 gift card exchange in class on Fri. Dec. 19th. Please send in a wrapped gift card in the amount of $5 (No extra please) by Thursday. Dec. 18th.  Each student that participates will leave that day with a gift card. :)
 
**Our amazing Room Mom, Mrs. Mauzy will be doing a holiday craft project with the class starting next Monday (Dec. 15th). Each student needs to supply 300 sandwich style bags (the fold over type, not the zip top type). Information about this craft is coming home in the Tuesday folders today!  Look for a letter from Mrs. Mauzy.
 
**6th Grade Holiday Park Day is Thursday, Dec. 18th. We will walk to Mountain Gate Park and be there for the day. You are welcome to join us at any time during the day. All students need to bring a sack lunch OR have lunch dropped off at the park for them (they may be begging you to do this! :) It's fun for you to come and have lunch too.)

Thanksgiving Feast!

We will be having a Thanksgiving feast lunch on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 12:00 in room 307!
 
We have MUCH to be thankful for this year and this is the perfect opportunity to be able to share with each other. :)

Diabetes Awareness Day!

Pssssttttt... it's a 4 day weekend!

Turns out some friends didn't realize this weekend is a 4 day weekend!  We have Monday & Tuesday off of school! 

Game donations needed!

If you have any board games or playing cards laying around that you'd like to donate to our classroom, we'd LOVE to have them!!! Our field is getting an extreme makeover and recess time is rough since it is blacktop only. The kids would love to have some games to play!

Science Fair

Science Fair packets were handed out today!!!!  I have set up a timeline for due dates to make the project run smoothly.

Legal Sized Paper

Our class is in need of legal sized paper.  If you have any contacts that can help us purchase this paper at a good cost (it's more expensive than regular size!), please let me know!!!! :) 

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is October 27-31. We will have themed spirit days. Here is the schedule:

Monday the 27th- "Proud to be Drug Free" Wear RED
Tuesday the 28th- "Too Smart to Start" Wear your college t-shirt
Wednesday the 29th- NO SCHOOL
Thursday the 30th- "I Don't Have Time For Drugs" Wear your extracurricular activity gear
Friday the 31st- "Be a Super Hero and Say No To Drugs"- Wear your Super Hero costume or other approved costume to school.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Dominic and Bryson for winning our class Spelling Bee. They will represent our class in the school bee in November!

Conferences!

Conferences will be held Oct. 27-29. Please note that it is a release day (no school) for kids on Wed. Oct. 29th. CFIS Assembly today

Corona Fundamental Intermediate School came today to present to the kids about 7th grade. If you are interested in your student entering the lottery for next year, interest cards are due by Jan 22 at 3:30 pm. Sailboats!

How is your sailboat coming along?  Don't forget, it cannot be larger than 2 inches wide by 5 inches long (yes, the 6th grade teachers will check!!!).

Can't wait to see them all in action on the 10th.
Starbucks will be donating the straws to use for wind power to propel our boats. :)

Mesopotamia Tasks

We've finished Early Man and Mrs. Corselli has moved into Mesopotamia for Social Studies. Here are the tasks that will be expected for the unit. Lots of fun ahead!!! 

 

 

Maps (Task 1) are currently in process in class!  You probably won't see them at home... the kiddos have class time to complete them.  They are due Fri. 10-10

 

Mini Me's & their business card will also be an in class assignment.

 

Sailboats (Task 4) are due Fri. Oct. 10th for our Raingutter Regatta that morning. :)

Reflections

All sixth grade students will be creating an entry for the California PTA Reflections program. Entries are due Friday, Oct. 10th.

Early Man Test Postponed to Monday!

Today we are practicing flexibility!!!!  I made the decision after the Jog A Thon efforts tired our class out to postpone the Early Man test to Monday. While I do not like to give a test on Monday, this is the best solution that was available!  Study hard!!!!

Jog A Thon!

Our School Jog A Thon is this Friday!!! All students in our class who bring in at least $50 in donations will receive a homework pass for 1 week of NO Homework!

Q is on the fritz!

Happy Friday!!!  Q (the district online grading program) is on the fritz and not allowing me to add assignments.  I am working on it & I apologize for the delay!!!

Patriot Day on Sept. 11th

Thursday, September 11th is Patriot Day. Please wear red, white, & blue to show your spirit!  Student Council will be leading the entire school in the pledge and singing Proud To Be An American on the blacktop that morning. :)

Redo Policy!

I am a STRONG supporter of redoing assignments if needed. If you received a grade that is lower than you are happy with, I encourage you to redo the assignment and turn it back in in the REDO BASKET. I will regrade it and you will receive 1/2 credit for each question you successfully answer that was marked incorrect during the first grading. (BONUS WORD: Responsibility) It's important to me that you are learning the material!  :)

OC Register Fundraiser!

Flyers for the OC Register fundraiser have been sent out!  This is a wonderful fundraiser for us and a great opportunity to get the Sunday paper for only a dime!  Here is a list of zip codes that can be used for a subscription.

We've been adopted!

I'm VERY excited to say that our class has been adopted by the Starbucks store on Cajalco in the Crossings Shopping Center!  Daniel, the manager and his amazing team approached me and asked if we would be interested and of course I jumped on the chance!  They will be supporting us with supplies when possible, sending partners to read to the class, assisting with any community service activities we have and later in the year we plan to visit the store to see how  teamwork plays a role in daily life.

What a great opportunity for our class!  If you are in the store, please be sure to thank them for partnering with us this year! :)

Happy First Day!

Thank you to all who made our first day a great one!  The year is off to a wonderful start. :) Information about Parent Information Night went home today. 6th grade will be presenting as a team at 4:15 in the MPR. I hope to see you then!
